Meet the Team | Carol O'Quinn

We’re lucky to have Carol O’Quinn aboard our design team at Arcadia. Carol’s effortless chic, collaboration skills, spatial vision help clients shape a concept into a gorgeous and functioning kitchen. With over 25 years of experience, she knows what works for real families like yours.

We asked Carol a few questions so you could get to know her and her work a little better.

What does a typical week look like to you, as a kitchen designer?

Each week is different than the last. I spend the majority of my time designing spaces in our 20/20 software. My week is a blend of new client appointments, meetings with current clients, overseeing cabinet deliveries and installations, attending various professional networking events, and reaching out to interior designers and Lake Oswego Chamber members. I’m so lucky to work from my home office. I have the perfect job!

What’s your design history and background?

I’m a Portland native, and have an Associate Degree in Interior Design. I became a Certified Kitchen Designer in 1997 with the National Kitchen and Bath Association. Immediately after graduating, I started my career working at Neil Kelly in cabinet sales and design — and have loved this trade ever since.

You create timeless and chic designs, but do you have any favorite trends at the moment?

Mid-Century and contemporary are my favorite—however—I realize design trends are about my clients’ individual home style. I prefer to mix cabinet finishes in kitchens. I generally direct my clients to choosing a Shaker door style, as it’s been a timeless look for centuries.

What’s the hardest part of a kitchen makeover?

I think my strength is space planning and creating a beautiful new kitchen design—and I have a lot of experience doing just that. With any remodel, things can go wrong. It’s so important to partner with professional contractors and designers who can help move the project forward from design conception to completion. So, I would say, the hardest part is doing your homework and finding the team that’s just right for you and your family.

Tell us a little bit about one of your favorite projects. What made it so special?

A 1906 remodel that changed a house in sad neglect and transformed it architecturally into a Bungalow delight. I moved some interior walls to create better living spaces, increased the kitchen footprint, repaired damaged fir floors, and improved the millwork packages and fireplace surround. Virtually everything was updated —from the basement to the roof.

Anything else we should know?

My husband and I live in a Mid-Century home that will need to be remodeled in a few years. We have two grandchildren, two Scottish Terriers and enjoy working on projects around the house. I just completed two remodeling projects for my sons, Brian and John—and Arcadia was there every step of the way!
